I disagree....

You never want to trap moisture. Out in circulating air is the best, it allows moisture to evaporate. You will never see a museum store a firearm in a foam case, unless the atmosphere is totally controlled.
Putting a plastic cover over a car guarantees that moisture will be trapped underneath. A sealed gun case is the same thing.

Minimal amounts of moisture allowed into the case when it was open/exposed to air....

Dessicant inside the case to absorb and trap that moisture....

How is this better/worse than a gunsafe? Oh.... my case is airtight..... your safe isnt... but it doesnt exactly "breath" either.... so there is a preset amount of air/moisture the pelican and dessicant has to deal with...

While your safe that isnt "open air" does allow humidity to enter all the time.....

As I said, *MY* rifle has been in a pelican case like this for 4-5 years. I've had zero issues. I did have a mystery foam eat blue off a handgun in a couple months. I *KNOW* this method works fine for *ME*. If others believe it, and try it, I'm not concerned that they have anything at all to worry about as long as they use common sense to keep the case/foam dry- or I wouldnt have mentioned it in the first place...

My personal opinion that has been tried and worked fine for about 5 years including poor humid conditions for the case itself....

If you hafta lock it away for a while, put it away OILY. The inside of the case doesn't care!

When I stored my AR, i'd take the BCG and place it in a plastic ziplock bag, heavily oiled. The weapon would be stored in a different location than the bolt carrier group until range day came around. That's when id install the BCG and shoot. End of the session, BCG is cleaned and re-oiled for separate storage before going home.

This way in the event of a theft, the weapon isn't usable to the crooks.

Go figure. My AR has been stored in the original Hard plastic case it came with from Bushmaster. Foam inserts. No rust yet since 99. just checked it (when I see these threads-ha)

Maybe it's the Break Free CLP (all I use). I can not see that corrosion resistant finish rusting under normal use and cleaning. Guess it might/has happen though- to someone.

I would not stress over it too much OP. Have fun with your AR.
