It cracks me up that you were able to guess the location based on the dog. Out of all the hints in the post the pit gave it away.
I have lived in this area since November, 1985. It stands to reason that some things leave an impression.

I actually avoided the Oroville range for the better part of 25 years due to others telling me how "crazy" it is. I have been shooting there for a couple of years and that has not been my experience, for the most part. It does make a difference depending on which day of the week and what time you show up.

That being said, I can say I could never go back to the area in So Cal where I grew up (Simi Valley). I was last down there for a funeral a couple of years ago and felt the life being sucked out of me every minute I spent there.
Just taking up space in (what is no longer) the second-worst small town in California.

I've had mostly good days at both Oroville and Spenceville. Just hit Spenceville on Fri morning to sight in my 1-4x24 Tac 30 on my Mini 14. All good guys talking guns that day (one guy even gave me a hand sighting in) although the trash on the range was really bad and someone said it was cleaned only a week before. I usually avoid these ranges unless I go at first light during the summer or once the weather gets nice and cold. During the winter I'm usually only one of a few people till 10-11am easy.

A gun is like a parachute. If you need one and don't have it you'll never need it again.
