New Savage combo gun

Looks like the guys selling springfield armory m6's are going to have a harder time selling them. Savage has come out with a new combo gun the Model 42. Either 22/410 or 22WMR/410. Looks like I need a new gun.

The first gun that I ever owned was a Model 24 in 22lr/410. It was a great rabbit gun and I had a blast with it.

Markley's in Watsonville has one, I think it's the 22/410 model.

I have a early model with the selector on the side, that had to be converted to hammer select. 22mag on top with 20gauge on bottom.

The first gun i ever owned (still own it) was a Savage that was given to me 25+ years ago. it's a 22/20 model with the engravings on the sides and the gold colored trigger.

I remember, as a little kid, shooting a Savage O/U in 22lr and .410---must have been a real little kid because to 22 was fun, but the .410 kicked the snot out of me!

By no stretch of the imagination is this gun a gimmic. Like many here, I have had one for years--well over 40--in 22LR and 20Ga. A model 24 and, in my opinion, much nicer looking than the new 42.

jyo's comment reminded me of the very first time I fired a "kicking" gun--a 410 shotgun. Don't remember exactly when that was, but I guess it's a lifetime memory.

Ah, the memories. I spent a lot of time behind the Model 24 when I was younger. I might have to check out the new model to see if it is worthy of it's predecessor.

I remember my Savage Model 24 (.22Lr over .410) quite well. It was my first combo gun (and only so far), but it was great. I used it to take my first deer when I was 14 (.410 slug at 40 yards). I loved the fact that I could be out squirrel hunt (using the .22Lr barrel), and have a slug in the .410 for bear protection (up around 4000' elevation in the sierra's) or a deer if in season. Also used to to bag alot of quail before I got my first real shotgun.

Ended up giving it to my brother when he got old enough to graduate from his pellet gun. He ended up trading it to my dad for a .223 bolt action rifle my dad had. Dunno if my dad still has it.
