I know the NRA offers it, but can I get a premium from a normal insurance company? I don't want them to know I have the amount I do just because they might see it as more of a liability or a reason to drop me (sorta like how they won't insurance a home with a pitbull). Is there a reputable company I could purchase insurance from? I have a safe, but ya never know.

Gun Insurance?

I think the NRA group deal is better for guns alone.
Riders for valuables on homeowner's policies often can be pricey and/or have funky paperwork requirements for proof of valuation, etc.
NRA ArmsCare is pretty damned good, I never hear it bitched about, and if there's a claim at least you'll be talking to someone who deals primarily w/guns.

For what it's worth, I have a "named" item insurance policy that covers almost $30k of jewelry and sporting goods that costs $350/year. It offers full replacement with no deductible if any item is lost or stolen. Two months after getting the policy my wife lost a $3k diamond earring. State Farm cut a check no questions asked and my premium didn't go up the next year.Comment

My guns are insured by my Renter's insurance, up to $5,000. Theft, fire, or anything in that nature are covered (basically, the coverage applies as it does to every other item in my home). I can also have a "named" personal articles policy (like I do with jewelry and camera equipment) that will insure it from damage from outside sources).Last edited by ETD1010; 02-11-2008, 9:20 PM.Comment

Same as this guy. It costs me $16 a month to cover everything. Just take pictures and keep them off site. You can get a personal articles policy to cover specific things. Insurance companies are not afraid of guns, they make lots of money off insuring them. The best safe available is an insurance policy, then a liberty. My guns are insured by my Renter's insurance, up to $5,000. Just an aside question:
How does the insurance company know how much to pay out for each rifle? Do they take collectability into account?Comment

The NRA's insurance is one of the best deals you can find for gun insurance. IIRC, they cover the first $1000 without extra cost.NRA Benefactor Life Member
