Stripped lowers were flying off the shelves near me because of SB249. In fact, I felt the SB249 flyers that were in the store helped their sales tremendously. People would ask about what it was, and then you could just point to the wall of M4 bullet button rifles and say they want to ban those. I wonder how many rifles they sold that way.
I bought a stripped lower myself.
My neighbor, after 2 years of reluctance finally bought a stag lower a week before SB249 died - he would ask me about what was going on about it daily. He didn't really have the money to buy it, but found it and paid at the counter with cash that looked like he had in a coffee can for rainy days. But he is getting the upper soon because now he is so close he can taste it. I am convinced that SB249 is what forced his hand to buy.
ETA: and people still believe that if Obama is re-elected he's gonna try to take our guns. It's so crazy that the guy who cuts my hair, after having just a Glock for SD for so long just bought 2 more guns and asked me about getting a mini-14. When I said, why not get an AR pattern rifle? His eyes widened... "you mean you can get those here? tell me more sir". He had just bought S&W stock because he said the last couple of times he was in a gun store it was packed. So I pulled up a picture on my phone of a CA compliant M&P15 and told him; "help prop up that stock you just bought". I would not be surprised if he showed me pictures of his new purchase at my next haircut.
