    OOPS!!!

Has anyone noticed that the picture of the "semiautomatic pistol" in the HSC booklet (page 20) has a magazine capable of holding MORE THAN 10 rounds?

Here's the link to the official State of California HSC PDF

I didn't notice this but will take a look. Considering that the booklet is meant to show a new shooter or new purchaser how to operate a handgun that presumaby is being DROS'ed post-2000 or purchased post-2000 to presumably a non-mag permit holder, yes, they should have shown restricted capacity mags in the demo photos.

Many of us have regular mags for guns that we don't yet own. Someday, I may even by a Glock just to use the 17&33rd mags I've got. Of course, since I'm not a Glock fan, it'll have to be one hell of a deal!

True, but you really have to presume a lot to make your scenario work as far as the photos go.

You have to presume that this new gun transfer took place without any mags, OR with 10 rnd mags, and the new buyer planned in advance, stockpiled standard cap mags prior to the mag ban in 2000, thought about the safe handling demo, brought them in on the day of the demo, and worked them into the routine - leaving the 10 rnder's out of the pics. That's a lot to presume.

I prefer to think that the CA DOJ screwed up and took pics of std cap mags - maybe just to remind us how hosed we are in this state!!

            Too funny!!
If you know how many guns you have... you don't have enough guns.

People need to remember that the same guys who wrote the 1st Amendment, also wrote the 2nd Amendment... and for the same exact reasons.

Actually, aside from current law updates, the handbook hasn't changed much in the last 10 years. Which would lead me to believe that it hasn't changed much in over 10 years. The state of California has spent so much of our money trying to take our guns, that they can't afford a new photoshoot for the HSC handbook.
What year did that(in the photo) model S&W auto come out? That will probably give you a good idea as to when the handbook(and photos) was originally drafted.

I thought the HSC wasn't necessary until post 2000. I know I used to use my BFSC before that.

Man... I'm so used to seeing those in pictures that I just sighed and wished I could get some. I didn't even THINK about it being a state-specific publication

I bought my first handgun in '97... IIRC this was the same booklet that was given out. Regardless, this handbook was last revised in 2004, so the pics should be updated to reflect the current laws. Someone F'd up.

I prepping for a handgun class and the HSC was/is "required" reading. Because I don't have an HSC I was paying attention to the minutia and details which is why I caught the goof.

I just thought it was funny that the State forbids our purchase of high capacity magazines for safety reasons, yet shows them as part of the handgun safety procedure.

We now return you to more important things, like a full detail strip of a S&W 9mm before class starts so that I know it's clean and will function properly to quickly punch holes in paper.
