Are these muzzle brakes or flash hiders???

I am thinking about converting some of my AR's to featureless.

I don't want to get popped for having a flash hider which actually could be a muzzle brake, or replace a muzzle brake with a thread protecter needlessly.

Can anyone tell me if these are muzzle brakes or flash hiders, or both??

Pic #1 - From an AR pistol

Pics 2, 3, and 4 are all from the same gun.

I have a few AR's with this muzzle device. It doesn't have any openings on the bottom 1/3 of the device, only from 8:30 to 3:30. I am guessing its a compensator, but I am not sure what other claims the maker has made. Its one two match rifles and one standard RRA mid length carbine AR.

All appear to be flash hiders. Muzzle brakes have an exit diameter equal to the caliber. Should look like there is a washer welded inside the opening. I can't find the thread, but there is a great reference for featureless on here with pictures of what is acceptable.

This statement kinda confused me. On featureless rifles, you can only have a muzzle break or no muzzle device. A flash hider/flash suppressor is considered one of the "evil features."

That's why I asked the question and posted the pics. I wanted to confirm what I had were flash hiders. Now I need to either get muzzle brakes or thread protectors, and as the rifles are match rifles for the most part, and muzzle brakes are not allowed in NRA high power rifle comeptition, its going to be thread protectors.

First is a YHM Phantom Flash Hider.
Second is a A2 Flash Hider.

Both are in fact flash suppressors as CA defines them and will have to be changed out to be featureless.

You mention the first is on an AR pistol.
You know there is no such thing as a "featureless pistol" right?
If you have a threaded barrel and or a magazine well outside the pistol grip by definition to be legal the pistol must be a fixed magazine.

(I guess you could call any regular pistol that the magazine well is inside the grip, doesn't have a threaded barrel, barrel shroud, second grip a featureless pistol but I don't see anyone calling their Glock or 1911 one hah)

Take some time and read the guide I wrote that was linked above and make sure you fully understand what going featureless entails

I understand fully. I have been reading your guide a lot lately.

My biggest issue is the grip. I just don't see how the grip is going to work ergonomicaly. I wish someone made a Saiga standard stock 223 which was worth a darn accuracy wise.

                  It really isn't that bad.

                  Which ones are you considering?

                  I run ST wraps.
They are designed to have the fin area farther on one side or the other.
So if you are right handed the bulk of the material is on the left side so your palm can get more purchase on the grip.

What I'd really like to do is to use a revised bolt like they use on buffer less pistols and blow mold up some standard rifle stocks so you could have a mi I 14 with a standard lower.
