    Thoughts on Gun Grab Potential?

As many of you know I run gun centric website called www.netgunsmith.com

I was asked a question last night on our facebook page:

"I have a question. So a lot of stuff going on in the world right now. If SHTF and cops or the guard come for our guns what do we do?? Run? Fighting them would be stupid. What do we do?"

    the article is here:

Buy netgunsmith.com for 195 on GoDaddy via ExpiredDomains.com. This premium expired .com domain is ideal for establishing a strong online identity.

I did a write up that's only semi comprehensive...I was hoping I could come here to get some other thoughts on the topic and some critiques.

Anyone who contributes an idea, I will gladly give a backlink/recognition to, and would like to edit my post to reflect help from the Calguns forums, which I am a big fan of.

Mostly, I'd like to see where other California gun owners stand on the issue and whether I missed a glaringly obvious remedy/technique/tactic in my write up. Any critique would be appreciated.

(If you do suggest something that wasn't already in the article, please let me know If I can associate your name with the information you are suggesting)

    Thanks,

    Ben

If shtf and gun grabbers come a knockin', I will probably either bury them or hide them at a storage facility where my parents rent one of the storage lockers. I will never willfully give my guns to the govt.

In a event of a SHTF, my guns are my guns and your guns are your guns. We have to take in consideration a gun is just another tool. Even if it was law enforcement, in SHTF there is no more law involved in the situation. Meaning if they try to steal my means of protection, i will protected myself by any means. BUT

If i have extra i wouldn't mind sharing, but they have to ask, not take. Taking will cause both end to be agressive.

Consider taking SHTF out of the equation and what if they just came to take your guns...

I can guess quite a few of us would give them over one round at a time...

Im not in California, but you asked the question.

My answer is divided thus:It depends on what process Big Government uses to disarm the population.

Option 1: Society is going to pot in a visible way, and a group of panicky morons in D.C. decide to make a public knee-jerk statement by restricting or banning civil arms during a public security crisis.

This blanket rule will be enforced without fanfare or protest in California (sorry guys), Illinois, New Jersey, and other states where the Capitol benevolently extends a privilege for the citizenry to own guns ,subject to change without notice.

In states like Montana , Idaho, and others where there are laws on the books like the "Made in Montana Act" which specifically nullify Federal authority on gun regulation, 'enforcement' would boil down to a bloody and expensive standoff for DC, one which would cost a lot of Federal ninjas their lives.

For the latter reason I doubt we'll ever see such a thing happen. As I stated above my answer is a forked response, and the second half is the more insidious and effective approach. Looking at Australia and the UK, both nations once had a robust shooting culture akin to our own. Yet both nations stand alike in that the average man is legally defenseless against scumbags.

Why? Because the Disarmament Lobby didn't declare over a bullhorn "ALL GUNS ARE NOW BANNED!!HAND EM IN AT YOUR LOCAL POLICE STATION BY 4PM OR ELSE" Thats an invitation to civil war, and civil wars don't get politicians re-elected.

Rather they operated like a Soviet deep cover agent in Washington. First they start off with the little lies at the ground floor, like registering machine guns and 'dangerous weapons'.

Next the spy is promoted to a mid-level position after earning some trust. At this stage 10+ round magazines and ammunition purchases are restricted.

Now that some years have passed and people have grown up around the spy, he's now considered an important cornerstone to the agency.Time to up the ante and start registering everything that launches a bullet, and some airsoft toys for good measure.

Our Soviet spy has been groomed, trusted, and is perceived to be ready for the top job in the agency. With his confirmation to Assistant Director, everything previously registered is now required to be surrendered or destroyed with the exception of 2 shot break action shotguns and lever action rifles.

Now the truth of our spy's intentions is revealed, but its far far too late to do anything about it now. The agency's been compromised for decades as America's most sensitive secrets were systematically sent to foreigners. So it is with a gradually disarmed society, as every level of the population has been compromised over a period of decades to repudiate the principle of armed self defense and self-determination. Even if the government voluntarily offered a restoration of gun rights the proposition would fail as all the voting base knows their whole lives is disarmed servitude, and only a minority of them can conceive of a better way to conduct social affairs.

This cycle of disarmament is much more insidous and effective-and the latter method results in the firearm owners becoming the enemy amidst a population clamoring for serfdom, versus the government taking the blame for being the bad guys. This is the cycle we must keep a vigilant eye towards preventing at all costs. In this outcome, no armed resistance would happen as the few old timers with weapons would rapidly realize, as the gun owners in the UK did in the mid 90s, they were alone amidst a society which long since repudiated their values.
The more prohibitions you have, the less virtuous people will be.
The more subsidies you have, the less self reliant people will be.

IMHO this is the most likely scenario...

Federal law bans the sale of firearms after date XX/XX/XXX. Many States have passed laws making their State exempt from this. They are called "Firearms Freedom Acts." The States have passed laws saying any firearm that is manufactured and sold inside its borders to be exempt from Federal regulation since those regulation steam from the interstate commerce Claus of the US Constitution.

If the Federal Government even attempts to say "turn in" your guns or we are coming to get them, several States such as Montana, Utah and Arizona have said they will tell the public NOT to comply. Those States (and others) do not allow any firearms that do not effect interstate commerce to be regulated by Federal Laws. So in order to enforce the Federal "turn in" law, the White House would have to send in the Military, which would cause a civil war.

States such as California, New York, New Jersey, Hawaii and Illinois will lead the way in agreeing with these laws. They will attempt to ask the National Guard and Sheriffs Office to "go get" the firearms...but many in those agencies have stated they will disobey those orders. It has been said that although many Police and National Guard DID confiscate firearms post Katrina, many Officers and Soldiers refused to do so.

So any way you slice it, the Federal Government knows there will be blood shed if they attempt such an act. That is the proverbial, "tossing the frog into boiling water"...

Very interesting responses so far. Thanks so much.

Excellent post @SilverTauron very different way to word things.

All of these take the hardline approach though...Let's say a major disaster happens and a team of National Guard guys comes and says they are taking your guns.. what then? There is some evidence that this happened relatively frequently in Post Katrina Louisiana...

Assuming it actually could/does happen in some area of the nation...any words of advice? Disinformation campaign "i lost my guns-you can't come in" etc.?

Does anyone discuss things like this with their gun/shooting buddies, or is it off limits to talk about extremes?

Does your wife and family know what you would want to see happen? What happens if you are forced to have family stay with you, do they know would you involve them in the decision making process?

Would you really start shooting at the first sign of a gun grab?

Just curious...I do appreciate the responses.

I'd give them one or two, and tell them that is all of them.

I'd hand over all my airsoft rifles and tell them these could easily be converted to FA with minimal effort.

The most likely disaster gun snatching scenario for California will take place in the disorganized mess after a huge quake. That would be our "post-Katrina". When that happens and So Cal or the Bay area are flattened, that would be our true SHTF scenario.

Hopefully when a disaster of that magnitude occurs, law enforcement and military will be too overwhelmed to really concentrate on gun grabbing, giving us time to formulate a plan of action to stay armed in that event, it's kind of hard to plan for when we have no idea what the devastation will be to the buildings we live in. Your guns will do you no good if your gun safe is buried under tons of debris and rubble and you and or your family are injured or barely surviving.
