Target Suggestions for .223 Inside 100 Yds?

Just wondering if anyone has any good ideas other than paper (works but boring)? I'm looking for something reactive and that provides an easily visible reference that it was hit. Would be great if it lasted through more than one range session.

Is there any type of steel that would hold up? I know AR550 steel might be ok at slightly under 100 yds. But bring it in to 50 yds and it's toast.

They make reactive targets out of self-sealing polymer/ plastic that can take hundreds/ thousands of hits depending on ammo used.

You could easily fashion a stand out of PVC Pipe & hang these from some string. No ricochets, and can shoot at from any distance

tennis balls, can even be cheap if you goto local country club (with tennis courts) and ask to buy some old tennis balls they were going to throw out.

blocks of ice, don't even have to clean up afterwards. freeze it in a cut bottle so you can just slide that froze ice out and reuse the bottle for the next batch. only downside to this is the giant cooler you will have to bring to keep them frozen.

Range target balls, some can handle 10-20 thousand rounds of 22.

Ar 500 steel would hold up just fine vs .223 at < 100 yards. If it will hold up to 7.62x54r @ 100, .223 is no problem. Safety is another matter.

Golf balls are both a challenge and a blast to shot. Best part is you can shoot the hell out of them and they keep on going.

PVC rack and tennis balls. Fill the bottom PVC with sand and it will hold up under the worse wind. Easy to take apart and haul too.

If you're going to shoot at <100 yards use a 22 rimfire, it' a lot cheaper and they make all kinds of reactive targets for it.

Under 100, not much. As Fjold indicated, go rimfire and there's plenty!

Um...This is what WallyWorld Federal .223. does to AR550 (not 500) steel at 50 yards. That's an AR550 8" round plate from Action Target btw.

Between desert shooting trips I save up a bunch of containers. Water/Milk/Juice jugs , empty paint cans etc. When its time to go,, fill em up with water, cheap + fun.

Works best with softpoints, I never get tired of blasting waterbottles

We used to go to the produce market and buy old fruit and veggies and shoot them---we would go back the next day and the stuff was gone---animals eat it! The day after Halloween, we would buy a car full of pumpkins for real cheap---again the animals cleaned-up the pieces. Two liter plastic soda bottles filled with colored water are fun when HP bullets are used---you must clean these up after shooting---don't leave trash!
