    M&P mag not seating.

    Hi all,

I picked up my M&P 9mm today after my ten day wait. I didn't check the fit of the extra mag until I got home and cleaned the handgun and found that it wouldn't seat. I thought I had made a mistake reassembling the gun but after repeated attempts I used the mag that came in the gun and it fit. I noticed that one of them (the one that won't seat) is shorter than the other.

Are both types of magazines supposed to fit in the M&P 9 or did I get an incorrect magazine?

I actually ordered a spare mag from MidwayUSA to play with while I got my M&P and it doesn't seat either. It's the same size as the smaller one.

the shorter mag is most likely the m&p compact mag, the full size mag will work in a m&p compact but not vice versa.

I looks like a mag for a compact, but the compacts I have seen have a finger extension base plate. I'd take it back to the store and show them what you got.

        Thanks for the input!

        Cool, thanks guys.

I already sent S&W and MidwayUSA an email about it, but I'll drop by Turner's tomorrow and see if they can replace the mag.

        Thanks again!

There are versions of the compact mag without the finger extension.

Yup, my M&P 9c came with 2 mags, one with and one without finger extension.

              Looks like you got shorted...
              Shorted with a mag for a 9c.

Send a message to S&W and explain that they put the wrong mag. They should send you an additional one. Might even let you keep the compact one.

Mine came with three and night sights. One without the finger extension, two with the extension. I bought two extra mags the day I turned in my active credentials for my retirement ones.

And you are right, one of my all time favorite guns.

The shorter mag looks like it is for the compact model. If you want to sale it. I will take it off your hands. Pm me if interested.

                    Hehe, indeed!

Took it back to Turner's today and they seemed kind of perplexed that it would happen. One of the guys mentioned the full size mags were hard to get.

He took it to the back, presumably to look for a new mag, came back a bit later and took the magazine out of the display model and checked it in my handgun. Then he took it out, put the original mag back and packed it all into the case and handed it to me.

Great service. Gonna post a thank you in their sub-forum.

Thanks for all the comments folks.

(Thanks for the offer Lonestar, but they took it back in exchange for the new one.)
