    12-Shot Repeating Flintlock Rifle

This unusual weapon was designed by Isaiah Jennings of New York in 1821. Unlike most rifles of the time, the user didn't have to reload after each shot:The multi-shot rifle illustrated takes twelve individual, superposed loads of powder and ball, one on top of each other, and is fitted with twelve individual touchholes, each with a swivel cover which also act to position and align the lock as it slides from its forward position towards the rear to align the shots in reverse order.Auction Link and Informa...

There were a few different designs that all operated much the same. While stacked shots were unusual in design and very worrisome to fire, multiple shot weapons were not new even back then.

You could even call it, the assault weapon of the day
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself...A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."......Cicero

It is a conceit of our age that we believe ourselves first among men to an idea, or it's implementation, when men have always been, and perhaps were more brilliant, creative, and insightful, in ages past when they did not stand on the shoulders of giants but were themselves the giants on which we stand.

The needs of man seem to have remained the same throughout the ages and his ideas to solve them as well, the applied science is really all that has been updated.

There are so many creative firearms designs that came about over the centuries. Repeating arms have always been "on our minds" since the advent of firearms.
...but their exists also in the human heart a depraved taste for equality, which impels the weak to attempt to lower the powerful to their own level, and reduces men to prefer equality in slavery to inequality with freedom.
