I'm undecided on which to get for my AR next. I have no sling and a PA MicroDot. I want a sling, but I also want a better optic. Silly poll? To most here, probably.

EOTech or VCAS?

True, but I was going to go with the padded sling and I have to get sling mounts too which add up to about 1/4 the price of the EOTech all together.

I don't know if it's still available, but using the VCAS, VTAC, and the Ares Amentum side by side, I personally preferred the
1. Amentum
2. VTAC
3. VCAS
in that order. I'm running VTAC currently and like it a lot. I just like the Amentum's ring better than a tail, but if I were worried about the ring catching on stuff, I'd stay with the VTAC. The VCAS is good, but the other two adjust a lot easier for me.
On that note, consider an Aimpoint H1 Micro with the 2 MOA dota as well.
ACOGs with the red chevron are very, very nice as well. Some of the owners of the aforementioned ACOGs seem to prefer the green horseshoe reticle for whatever reason, but having used both briefly, I like the red chevron much better personally.
I'd recommend:
1. sling
2. taking a few courses
3. H1 2MOA"You will never know how much it has cost my generation to preserve your freedom. I hope you will make good use of it."
John Quincy Adams
"You will never know how little my generation has traded away our freedoms and rights for. I'm sorry and ashamed for what we've left to the following generations."

I wish I had somewhere nearby that had the slings so I could look at them. The slings are a bit more "personal" than optics. I've looked at all three and based on my conclusions from what I've seen on the internet, I believe the VCAS is going to be the best for me. Would that be the case when I actually get it? I don't know. I've got an $8 Allen Co. sling that I took apart and then mounted to my AR. It would work; I just wanted something a little nicer/tougher.
As for the H1, I have the PA MicroDot but have recently been able to look through an EOTech. I do like the PA (and subsequently would be familiar with the Aimpoint and probably enjoy a 2MOA dot a little bit better than the 3MOA). The pro of the Aimpoint is the battery life, hands down. The pro of the EOTech is the reticle. Perhaps I need to find someone with an EOTech that will let me try it. I can get the EOTech for less than the Aimpoint + mount too. $450 vs $600.
