What to bring for desert shooting...

It's been 20 plus years since I've fired a gun...hopefully a bit wiser and certainly older...a whole lot older Heading out tomorrow morning with my neighbor and trying to think of everything to bring. I've loaded up my ammo boxes with the essentials...500 rounds of S&W .40 and 200 rounds of 12ga

Aside from that, I have a first aid kit, a multi tool and a plastic bag for hauling out whatever gets destroyed/trash. An ice chest full of beverages and water (no alcohol). An EZ-UP for shade and some chairs. Whatever I can stuff in a hatchback...

So...what do you normally take with you for a few hours in the desert? I've left off a few things from the list that will be there but curious what you think are essential for an afternoon in the desert...

make sure where you go isnt BLM land now.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

Sun block. Something to do in between shooting, like radio, deck of cards. When we go to the high desert to shoot we are all excited and amped up but after a while once the sun has beat you down and fingers hurt from loading mags, we all just pretty much hang around and talk. Last time my buddy took dirt bikes, so it was a two for one, shooting and riding in one after noon.

Likewise. We shoot once a month in the Nevada desert. My understanding is pretty much all of that is blm. Last time we were approached by a blm ranger he ran our weapons then proceeded to bs with us for an hour. Asked that we picked up our mess and off he went..

I bring a big ground cloth/tarp to catch all the brass. Fold it up, go home and sort it all out! This time of year, when it's hot out, I have a small portable misting system that goes on the canopy that works pretty well to cool the area down.

They also sell brass catchers for like $5 to $20 I believe. Really good investment.

The brass catcher is a great idea for just a single rifle like the AR but our group usually takes all kinds of different firearms. We'd probably need more than 20 different types of brass catchers. Over the years, we've found the tarp works pretty well as long as it's not too windy. When the wind comes up you just have to add bigger rocks to the corners.
