    MonsterVault Underbed safe

Does anyone have the MonsterVault underbed safe? Is it worth it?

I don't have a big collection yet so this would be a good size to secure my guns for now and not take up any space. The only problem is I can see me running out of room in the next couple of years. What you guys think? Save up alittle more and get a regular gun safe or this will get the job done?

The Original Underbed Safe. Built in the USA. Do you have a Monster under your bed? What's keeping your stuff safe?

I was in the same boat as you, but went with a similar under the bed safe (Amsec Defense Vault). I (and my wife) like knowing the guns are within reach, but out of reach of the kids. I can always get a bigger safe later on when the collection starts to grow, and keep the under the bed one for HD purposes. Just my .02

That's what I was thinking. I could use it even after I get regular gun safe. Seems like the only pros about this safe is that it doesn't take up much room and you can secure your firearms from kids. The bad thing is it is probably alot easier to break into and no fire rating. I've searched for reviews for this model but nothing came up. I think if it was under $400 I could see me buying it now, but going up to $600+ range I could just get the real thing.

I was all for a nice big gun safe, but it would have to go in the closet. If someone broke into the house I would have to go into the closet to get my gun, and then tactfully come out of the closet, and around two more corners, etc. You get the picture. That's why we went with the under the bed safe. It holds my HD Shotty, ammo, and 3 handguns, and ammo. I agree that with some effort it is probably not the safest from thieves, but it deters my kids (as of now). Good luck with your choice. I fought myself for a while before I made my choice.

But for right now I needed a safe to hold my quickly growing collection.

I just looked at the manual and they have an "override tool" which can be used to completely bypass the locking system. I don't know exactly what the override tool is, but that seems pretty pathetic to me.

I like the idea of a smaller under-the-bed safe, for keeping a few guns close to hand but secured, while also having a proper bolted down safe for storage of the majority of my firearms/valuables. It seems like that would be the best way to go if you can afford both, but from what I've seen of the under-bed safes they aren't a substitute for a comparably priced upright.

The first thing you need to do when looking for a safe is to only look at ones twice as big as you think you'll ever need. Then, once you think you have found "the one", double the size again. That should hold you over for several years unless, you get hooked on homebuilds. Then, you're just SOL. You'll never have enough room. BTW, that's only for firearms. If you're the type that thinks ammo needs to be locked in a safe, you'll never find one big enough.

That said, I can't see myself paying $600 for a steel draw under my bed. It isn't worth it.

I think you're mistaken. There is a key override. The keyhole is covered, and it requires a tool to remove.

That's what I was thinking. seems pretty pricey. I didn't even pay that much for my stand-up safe from Lowe's.

I wonder if something from like Weatherguard (they make truck box type stuff) could be obtained in a similar size. would prolly be just as effective and cheaper.
