    ultramax ammo- case failure

I just bought a new Kahr CW9 and had about 3 clips through it. I opened a box of ultramax 9mm FMJ's (bought from Cabelas) and loaded up the mag. The firsts round went BANG, and I noticed, along with 2 friends nearby, that it was much louder than before. I pointed the gun up and notice the slide back, with one in the chamber. Rotating I noticed the upper blow-out panel on the right side was gone. Turns out the one in the chanmber was the spent cartridge that failed to eject. It had blown out the unsupport bottom of the case and hence blown out the panel on the side. My hand stung near the the part by the slide, no injuries. I inspected further and saw that the ejector and spring was gone too.

I emailed ultramax with photos on Monday morning, and got a call back in 45 minutes. They took in some detailed info and said I could have it repaired by Kahr or another gunsmith, and they would send me a new box of 9mm. They sent me a ups call-tag for the used box of ammo , plus paid for my shipping of the pistol. They had Kahr direct-invoice them for the repair, and I got my pistol back in under 3 weeks.

I was very satisfied with their support on this, but I was wondering if there is a huge problem or reputation regarding ultramax or any other remanufactured ammo.

    ruger9mm,

Your a lucky dude! Obviously that spent case was reloaded a little too much and the brass was stretched to it's max or it was overcharged with too much powder! Off the top of my head I think Ultramax is simply reloaded ammo so if it is that case it's one reason why I don't like reloads. They were good enough people to ask you to send back the whole box of ammo cuz that's dangerous stuff.

You should have used a magazine. Those clips will jam up any gun not made for them, and possibly lead to case ruptures

Poop occurs. Billions of rounds of ammo loaded every year, some are bound to made wrong. That Ultramax took care of it, and Kahr took care of the warranty, makes everyone come out good in the deal.

But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself...A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."......Cicero

I have a savage 30-30 with a 3 round "clip". It says clip on the mag to describe it from factory
