    de-humidifiers?

I did a search but didn't come up with anything related. I'm wondering what people are using as far as de-humidifiers in their gun safes? I'm basically looking for something that doesn't take up too much room and is not very expensive.

    Thanks.

        cat litter

cheapest and best.... not the clay stuff. the silica gel kind

just fill a old tube sock and sitck it in your safe, change it every 6 months

you can scatter it over a cookie sheet and dry it out and reuse it

Use 2 of these in a 36 cu ft safe. I have to plug them in once every 2 months about (they DO work, and indicate when they are loaded up by turning pink). When I plug them in to an outlet to dry them out I have seen a puddle of water underneath them in the morning.

I also have a golden rod just to keep any condensation off the guns in the winter months. too much money invested not to do it. I had a stainless steel revolver rust on me in a cheap safe that was in the master bedroom. The sheetrock they used in the safe for fire protection in my sentry safe is a giant wick for moisture when used where a shower is operated.

Those EVA dry units are reusable and cheap on amazon. Cheap insurance and easy to use.

I already have a "Bighorn" safe my wife bought me from costco a while back, and it has a port in the rear for running a de-humidifier.

I edited my original post, but they absolutely work. I get a pool of water under them when they recharge. I keep a hygrometer in my safe and I am usually around 15-20% less humidity in the safe then outside of it. part of that has to do with the safe heater (golden rod) which keeps the relative humidity lower by raising the safe temp a few more degrees than outside. If you have an outlet inside your safe, the golden rod works. But if you don't, the dessicant EVA dry setups are equally as good - you just need to check and recharge them every couple months.

I do both in the winter and unplug the golden rod in the summer. Again, peace of mind and cheap insurance. You only have to screw up one gun to not make that mistake again.

No I'm not saying buy a new safe I'm saying look up safes because some have dehumidifier options you can click. Check around and see which they have them come with to get your started.. See which come with that option and look them up.

Or try midway USA or cabellas they probably have safe dehumidifiers.

If your safe has the opening for an outlet, use a golden rod if not use one or two of eva dry or these

OP to save you time I believe those are he ones listed as options with most mid end safes. The names sound familiar so check into those links. Not sure how they work but I know a few safe companies have options to add onto those so they much work ok..

Also check out YouTube. Should have some good reviews there
