Pros: They look, feel and function like a real AR. They even break down like one. They can accept most "real" AR parts. You can't change the barrel, buffer tube and things like that, but I'm not looking to do so on a dedicated rifle. You get a lifetime warranty through S&W as well. They seem to feed all but the crappiest ammo (Rem Gold), but then again, most all rimfires have problems with that ammo. Magazines are about 1/2 the price of "real" .22AR upper mags.

Cons: Having to read threads about the M&P15-22 while mine is stuck in CA jail! Magazines seem to be a bit hard to find ATM.

Price: They have come down in price. I was looking at them last year and I recall $550 being the average price. You can find them for $450 everyday now.

Great rifle. worth the money. I bought two. The only down sides I see is that they cannot take a standard free float rail without a adapter and the receiver is short so grips do not follow the profile of the back of the lower. Not a big deal and it was designed that way for a purpose. Anyways. They put the fun back into shooting.

I can't think of any cons for my 15/22. I don't remember how much I paid for my MOE version, but it was worth it. My boys and I have put just over 10k rounds through it. All of it Federal bulk.

Love mine, like others have said, it eats all kinds of ammo, I had a had a ruger 10/22 that I recently sold. I used to save all the rounds that had a FTFire in the ruger and my friends assorted 22 guns till the end of the shooting session, then load the 15/22 with them and they would all successfully fire.

The 15/22 firing pin hits significantly harder that almost any 22 out there that I have shot, and it also strikes a larger area of the rim. So the FTFires you get with other 22's will be cut down to almost zero with this rifle, imo of course.

Pros:

• Mostly well made.
• AR15 look and feel.
• Cheap training substitute for a 5.56.
• Fun.

Cons:

• Plastic upper receiver precludes the use of a shooting sling because of flexing.
• PIA to load magazines.
• Iron sights too high for for target shooting except at a fixed distance and too high in general. Having your sights 2" above the bore doesn't matter so much for a combat centerfire rifle but it's about an 1-1/4" too high for a general use 22.
• Crappy 7lb military trigger (replaceable for $100-200).

The bottom line is that if you're looking for a training stand-in for an AR15 (which is why I bought mine) or just a tacticool 22 it's a really nice option. But if you're looking for a practical general use 22 there are much better choices. If I had to do it over again I'd just buy a 22 upper for one of my ARs because by the time you add DROS fees and replace the trigger you're $550-650 into it.


Mine (original cost $413 + $60 FFL fee) after replacing the fixed sights with Magpul flip up sights ($80), the trigger with a RRA 2-stage ($100), and adding a quality scope and mount ($250).

I was considering one and people have a lot of good things to say about them but after watching a nutnfancy video he talked about it failing a couple times on him so I said **** it.

I picked one up and shoot it often.

I've also modified it heavily. Mine looks similar to shollings picture except I have a bipod, trigger job, and a beafier scope on it.

It's just a fun plinker!

I love mine. 8k + rounds and it still shoots as good as the day I bought it. Shoots everything except crappy Remington ammo.
