    7.5x55 Swiss Ammo confusion

Ok looking to buy some and I go to Wideners

Widener's Reloading and Shooting Supply has ammo and reloading supplies for sale at cheap prices. Find out why we're the best deal on the web today!

And they told me in email that that stuff is a soft steel core...but when I find what appears to be the exact same ammo on many other sites the description says it is a lead core...can anybody shed some light on this? could the boxes be the same but have different kinds of ammo? I want lead core

It attracts a magnet and can't be used at many ranges. If you want non magnetic ammo, it's either this: http://wideners.com/itemdetail.cfm?i...dir=18|830|855 or wolf Gold when you can find it. Save your brass and I'll help you reload it.

Oak tree allows the magnetic stuff as long as the core is lead

I've never cut a GP11 up before so, I don't know exactly how it is constructed. I prefer Angeles and being able to shoot my Swiss rifles at more than 100 yards and I reload. So, I've never bothered to look into it.

Edit: The first page of my google search all say that it's lead core and steel jacketed.

One day ( i keep telling my K31) one day you will shoot they way you want to...LOL

All i have to do is show that gun where the target is and it hits it

But anyway...for now I just need some lead core regardless of the jacket

When you want to reload for it, get some boxer primed brass and hit me up. I've got some frangible bullets and surplus powder that makes loading them cost less than 15 cents a round! Bulk lead cored bullets and Varget end up costing less than 35 cents a round. The expensive stuff for me to reload is Barnes lead free bullets. I'm planning on doing a small batch in the next couple weeks in case I decide to take one of my K31s deer hunting.

@OP: GP-11 is not steel core. It is a lead bullet, but the jacket is copper/nickel mix I believe so it is magnetic. It is the jacket that is magnetic while the core is lead. Great ammo, match quality milsurp.

The Wolf Gold 7.5 Swiss is PPU; same headstamp, same weights, everything. PPU produces a number of calibers for the Wolf Gold line. Honestly, if a store has both, there is often a difference in price (Ammo2Go has them at a $1 difference for the same rounds), just buy the less expensive.

GP-11 is lead core, steel jacket, cupronickel wash over the jacket. The steel jacket is what attracts the magnet. Cupronickel doesn't attract a magnet.

Thanks for the info! I thought it was copper in a nickel wash. Good to know.
