    Script Removal

I purchased a RIA 1911 Tactical a few weeks ago. Great gun for the money. But... I hate the huge script on the slide. Any ideas how to get that off without ruining the finish? It is a print on the side it is not engraved. If this question has been asked and answered before sorry I did do a search first. Thanks for all your replies in advance.

You could dura coat it...while not removing it...it does greatly reduce how obvious it is.

          Script Removal

Ok here is the picture. Not very good sorry. But you get the idea. The lettering is raised. And it is GOLD. I hate gold on guns. Unless its like an old lever action or something. I guess I could sand it off and repaint. The picture shows the gun as two different colors anyway. But that is a bit farther than I wanted to go. I believe the finish on the gun is a parkerized finish. Thanks again all.

I'm pretty sure that's engraved. What do you mean by "printed"?

Replace the slide with an unmarked one is probably the best solution.

You could have it ground off and refinished. $$

A premier gunsmith could weld over it, grind the weld flat & refinish it.$$$

Wait, that's not it in the pic? Only skimmed your second post. If it's raised a good gunsmith should be able to grind it off and refinish the slide.

Still the cheapest is to live with it.

Why do you want to get rid of that?

You think that's bad check out a GP100 warning label.

Now that's something to get rid of.

I agree, those warning labels really suck. I would just live with it as is but that is not your question.

Why did you buy it if you hate the script so much?

because the gun is more accurate and reliable without that gaudy script logo on the outside of the slide. Geezz, do I have to explain everything?

Don't get me wrong, I like the gun. I just don't like the billboard taking up the entire side of the slide. I guess maybe when I get really tired of it I will do something about it. Or just sand it off and make it a two tone. I was just hoping to lose the advertisement on the side.
