    Certified finally!

Well I just finished my NRA Certified Pistol Instructor course and passed! I took the class with T.J. Johnston along with 15 other students, some were Calgun members. I got a 100% on both test. It was a two day 16 hr course. I was supposed to take the last one back in June. But my wife failed to inform me there was a wedding we were supposed to attend the same weekend. It was a long wait but I am finally a NRA Certified Instructor for Pistol. T.J. is a Great guy!

That would be nice to give lessons to your wife, but I need to get my insurance first and find a few ranges that will let me use their range for classes. Thanks

                  TJ Johnston forever!

I was also certified the 26th and qualified as an RSO on the 3rd.

I was especially impressed by the quality of the instructor candidates(now NRA Certified Pistol Instructors).

                  Congratulations.

Well first thing, just seeing the faces of the students after shooting a gun for the first time was one benefit. Second, I can get a little money for lessons to help pay for my gun habit. Third, I can also apply to the state to be able to give the HSC test and issue the HSC card for a little extra money.

But most of all. To teach ( Attitude, Knowledge, and Skill ) necessary for a person to own and use a pistol safely.

I would give pointers anyway when at the range when asked. The problem was if the R.O. saw us they would tell us we could not give instruction without being certified and having the insurance required by the range. Liability to the range was the issue. I have to admit the look on a new shooters face is well worth it when they are getting good hits. Plus we just gained several new shooters and gun owners.

                      Works for me!

I would not say difficult. It was two long days that taught you a lot about how to ask questions of the student to be able to find a method of teaching to fit the student. There is a lot of info to take in over the two days on the NRA method of teaching and doing presentations at a moments notice. We took one test in the class, had a take home test and then a final test on the last day. We did our own qualify shoot and had students who had to shoot for a score.

I guess in its on way it was difficult just taking in all the info, but T.J. made it a very nice experience. We had a very good group of people.

So what do people typically do after they get their certification? Do you start marketing yourself to teach students? How much would a certified instructor typically charge for lessons?
