Updated Scientific Studies on Handgun Effectiveness??

There's an often referenced study, the FBI's "Handgun Wounding Factors and Effectiveness". BUT that report was done in 1989! http://www.firearmstactical.com/pdf/fbi-hwfe.pdf

Surely there have been studies/reports from some source since then. Firearms and ammo technologies have changed a lot in in the last 23 years.

I can't seem to find anything new on the topic.

Please note: You all have valuable opinions on this, and I appreciate that, but I'm looking for reports from official sources.

    Anyone know any reports?

That report really is all that most people need to read for the subject. Myself included.

If you are looking for actual numbers in order to quantify differences in terms of real-world effectiveness, you won't find them. For a number of reasons. [1]

The FBI drove changes in firearms tech that resulted in the modern bullet designs we see today. These designs are shot in various gel protocols, which provides a repeatable test medium. The bullets we have today are much more developed than those 25 years ago. The only real data available today concerns data from those types of tests.

DocGKR has a really good take on the subject:

[1] That's not to say that there aren't documents with data generated by 'non-official' parties. Just that there really isn't a lot of science under them, so they should be taken with a grain of salt - or better yet, a whole salt lick...
