Long story short, some good family friends of mine had a brother pass away recently. This brother left 3 long guns and 1 handgun to my family friends. The family friends are not gun people, and knowing that the firearms would interest me, offered to give them to me. I would like to LEGALLY obtain these firearms from my family friends.

      My questions are:
-Do I need to research the history of these firearms? I do not know when they were purchased or where they were purchased but they have always been located in California
-None of the firearms have "assault weapon" features, they are clearly older firearms. -As I posses a valid HSC and am not a prohibited person, can I head into an FFL with my family friend and PPT them to myself? Do I only need to do this with the handgun, or do all 4 firearms need to be transfered reguardless?
-One of the firearms is an early 1900's single barrel shotgun. Due to its age, does this one need to be transfered through an FFL as well?

      All help is appreciated! Thanks!
if the long guns are over 50 years old, you have no need to transfer them as they are C&R

just the pistol, which needs to be done by the estate executor to you I believe

        Thanks for the pointers guys.

TDYoung: I should have clarified more. Only 1 of the 3 long guns is a C&R. It is my belief that the other 2 long guns were produced sometime in the 1970's and 1980's.

So the handgun definitely needs to be PPT'ed to me. Im assuming the other 2, non C&R rifles need to be PPT'ed as well?

Yes, that is correct. Unless it's C&R, outside direct family requires using an FFL.
