Your in-laws suck. On the other hand there's no need to spit in the woman's face. You did do the right thing though from what I can tell.

Typical liberal reaction. Unfortunately for them, they'll probably end up getting robbed or assaulted by your BIL's drug addict friends.
BTW... You failed for not calling the cops. You knocked someone out and if she wised up, she could turn around a sue you.Comment

Crazy story, I would have called the cops anywayComment

Let the in laws get robbed, not your concern. I have no respect for people who do not value their safety of their property. You did the right thing (except spit in the womans face). Let you in laws get robbed and then tell them I told you so and make sure you smile smugly as you tell them, stupid liberals.sigpic I am only here for the milk and cookiesComment

i don't think it was smart to pull her into the house. i think you would be going to jail if you called the police out and told them that. it also seems your inlaws story would conflict with yours. another reason for the cops to take you in and let the judge handle it.Comment

Once you forcibly detain somebody like that, it is incredibly foolish to just let them go. A civilian does NOT have the right to detain someone like LE does. Not turning them over to the police makes it far too easy for them to claim kidnaping or false imprisonment. At a minimum, the police report could be a valuable asset when it comes to protecting yourself from any civil or criminal action that might result from an incident like this.
DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT A COP.
Not trying to be a jerk, just want to keep you out of hot water.
ETA: The minute she opened her mouth saying you called her over, it should have been a done deal, regards of what the in-laws said.Last edited by NoNOS67; 08-25-2012, 6:43 PM.Comment

dude!! you did well no matter what your inlaws or anyone else says. you took charge of the situation and handled it calmly. no one got hurt and nothing was stolen. im sorry they feel that way but at least for that one night they were safe. dont worry bro shes not going to call the cops on you or try and sue. the last thing any drug addict wants is to bring the cops or courts into it. im sure she will be back one day. she knows you dont live there so when your gone she will be backComment

The inlaws would of agreed with me. What I didnt say was that she confessed to trying to rob the place if I didnt call the cops. If it was my house I probbly would of put her down or anybody down trying to enter my house thru a window..Comment
