When I was in 6th grade I went to the Fort Mac Arthur Military base. I bought this ammo can in the musuems gift shop. Does it look like it is in good enough condition to use to store my emergency ammo?

If the gasket in the lid is soft and supple your good to go.Originally posted by fighterpilot562I am more of a sucker than a blower... -
Score!
The gasket seems to be soft and supple. But one of the sides of the gasket is softer than the other. Could this pose a problem?Last edited by Chameleon Loco; 08-24-2012, 8:15 PM.Want to Buy: Ruger PC9 Magazine Buttstock PouchComment

Har har. I live direct across the street from the gate at Ft MacArthur. Its now occupied by the Air Force so.... Ahem, anyway, there is no more PX and as far as I know no more 'gift shop'.
My Grandfather was a Bird Colonel and he used to take my dad down to get hair cuts on the base... My Grandmother did her shopping there.
Thats was back in the sixites.
Keep your can and use it. I have a few that must be from at least Korea/Vietnam if not WW duece.Comment

LOL at some of the thread responses.
Use it. As long as the gasket is there and soft enough to seal it will be fine.
Watch for deals on more -- a man can't have too many ammo cans.
People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

It shouldn't be an issue so long as it seals all the way around. Look for the indent of the rim of the can all around the gasket.
That is a current issue can, so you could probably find a new gasket if you really wanted to replace it."Did I say "republic?" By God, yes, I said "republic!" Long live the glorious republic of the United States of America. Damn democracy. It is a fraudulent term used, often by ignorant persons but no less often by intellectual fakers, to describe an infamous mixture of socialism, miscegenation, graft, confiscation of property and denial of personal rights to individuals whose virtuous principles make them offensive." - Westbrook PeglerComment
