    A nit-picking legality question...

I have a gun / legal question that came to mind. Just to piss everybody off, this is just a hypothetical that came to me, not an actual problem of mine that I'd be able to provide specifics on or anything. Here goes.

Let's say a guy lives on his boat in the delta or a bay or up a river. Maybe it's a cabin cruiser or a sailboat. Also, let's say he has or wants to buy a shotgun. Duck hunting, after all. Where he gets mail is at a PO box. How does this sucker buy a gun? I'm thinking maybe involve signing a statement with a notary or something? Get a letter from the Coast Guard saying you're a swell guy?

That's a tough one. Something tells me that putting "Somewhere in Sacramento River Delta" as address wouldn't work very well.

Come to think of it, the same difficulty would apply for things like driver's licenses and stuff. Also, how bout liveaboards in marinas? I would imagine with that it would be significantly simpler; "Bob's Marina, 600 Flood St Shed F #32A, Leveebreak City, CA" that's the address you stick on the form?

A certified copy of your voter registration is valid. I have a PO box on my DL and when I went to buy my first gun, I was quite put off that I had to have proof of residence on an official form. So I went to my county registrar and got a certified copy of my voter registration for ~$1.

The other added benifit of using a certified copy of your voter registration is that it is a small protest against the silly hoops we have to go through to buy a gun. "You want my thumbprint, fine, but I want my database entry to show that I vote, and I don't vote Republicrat." (I love the decline to state party affiliation option)

If you live in a rural area but do not have
a street address, or if you have no address, please show
where you live using the map in Box C (at the bottom of
              the form).

I got turned down once with my voter registration, trying to buy a handgun. It was just the one they send you in the mail. I thought "jeez, I can vote the lawmaker out of office with this, but this isn't good enough to fulfill the law he wrote?" Perhaps yours being certified carried more weight.

Jeez, that map idea sounds like a real PITA for some paper-pusher.
