Taking friends who've never shoot before, have them chip in for the ammo?

Bringing 2 friends to shoot with me at Angeles tomorrow they've never shoot before.

Bought a case of ammo, should I have them chip in for what they shoot or just let the bill slide as a first time guest thing? One is a good friend, the other is a cool guy but not super close.

    What would you guys do?

If it is a really close friend, I have made mention that is isn't cheap and I didn't have a real job at the time (we were students) so they helped out. More recently I've just had them pay my range fee (10 bucks locally) and he offered to buy lunch on the way home. If you can't honestly afford to cover it yourself, you should say something.

"Hey I'm really glad you guys could come shoot, I know you will love it however you probably don't realize how expensive ammo is, would you mind chipping in a few bucks to help out?"

I'm a pretty cut and dry, sometimes abrasive person so I usually just come out and tactfully say it, but they are your friends, approach it how you see fit.

I usually go by the first time is free but after that they are either paying for their share of ammo, buying food, or they help clean the guns

If you decide you want them to chip in, to be fair let them know ahead of time. If they've never shot, they may not realize it so easy for a small group to go through $100 of ammo.

Otherwise you decide ahead of time how much you want to spend on the party. Then tell them that you're bring 300, 500 xxx rounds for everyone and offer that if they think they might want to shoot more you can stop at your favorite store on the way. Then everyone knows what's happening.

I am a college student and working at the university only pays minimum wage. When I go shooting with my friends I always bring atleast 100 centerefire rounds and at least a few hundred rimfire rounds. I tell them that they can shoot my ammo but they can buy some if they want usually we run out and they have no problem buying a few more boxes.

If you invite then you pay... That's how I look at it and if they ask to join you then you can say Lets go 50/50 on the ammo if I'm bringing the guns ect...

New shooters get a pass. Always share with friends. Friends aren't friends if they are moochers or spray and pray.

meh - I let 'em buy a box or two of ammo - they can shoot my .22 for free all they like, but if they are sending more than ten rounds of anything bigger downrange they can buy a box.

When you are done and are sitting around talking about guns let them know what everything costs. That way they know how much you spent and what a good friend you are for taking them out.

Yeah, basically. Whenever I take people shooting, they can go through 9mm/.22lr/x39 for free (within reason), though I do charge for 12ga.

Plus, demeanor helps. If they are enjoying it, behaving themselves, appreciative, and it isn't something they usually get to do, I derive enjoyment from saying "don't worry about it" when they ask how much!

freepass, for all you know they think they are doing you a favor.

My other advice is to only give them one bullet for the first few times with any gun.

The shock of the explosion will cause many people to reflexively go into 'death grip' often resulting in unintended 2nd (or 3rd?) shots, possibly while not pointing in safe direction.

I believe there are several on UTube.

First box is free, they pay for any more rounded down to the next dollar.
There is no justification for the public servant police to be more heavily armed than the law-abiding public they serve...Unless...the government's intention is to be more powerful than the people.
