Does anyone know what the typical load out would have been for a heavy gunner in the 82nd Airborne in 1965-1966?

Nam was not my war but if my knowledge is on point, he would have been armed with an M60 chambered in 7.62x51.

Thanks! Any idea what he would have carried as a sidearm? Somehow I doubt I can pick up an M60 in CA lol

If there were soldiers carrying sidearms in VN, it'd be a 1911, but i highly doubt that a heavy gunner would carry one cause of the amount of ammo he would need and grenades xD

In the years mentioned, the 82nd Airborne were not in Vietnam. They were in the Dominican Republic. Does that make a difference?

Heavy gunner meaning the platoon machine gunner? He'd have the M60, a 1911A1 with three magazines and an entrenching tool with the wood handle which made a very effective close in weapon.
