Cost of Gunsmith work
I have some that ask why does it cost so must to do the work
Most Gunsmith do the work as a labor of love.
Here is why
1. A good to excellent gunsmith can work as Journeyman machinist in repair from $25.00 to $45.00 per hour in some else shop.
2. insurance per Year is $2,000 to $4,000
3. Rent $500.00 and up
4. Power and gas $300.00 and up
5. Water and garbage $100.00
6. Licenses in CA. first Year $700.00
7. Advertising, Phone lines and Internet $100.00 to $1000 per month
8. health insurance $1,000
9. Lost time on phone, email and counter 35%
10. Tools Machine tools and tooling. $50,000 over 5 years @ 18% interest $1,112 per month payments
I have list the 10 most common costs.
one month there is only 170 hours this how it come out on cost
1. 170 hours X $35.00 per hour $5,950.00
2. insurance for month...............$250.00
3. Rent for one month..............$1,000.00
4. Power and gas...................... $300.00
5. Water and garbage ................$100.00
6. Licenses in CA. $700.00/12====$58.00
7. Advertising $400.00
8. health insurance $1,000
10 Tools Machine tools and tooling. $1,270 per month

Total ==================$10,328.00
9. Lost time on phone, email and counter 35% or only work for 110 hours per month.
Cost per hour is $10,328.00/110 hours = $94 per hour
I do not know of any gunsmith that charges that high no one would have the work done. Just buy a new firearm.
Most of my work is done at $40.00 to $60.00 an hour good luck getting $60.00 hour
