As far as I know there is no law on 50 BMG ammo, as long as it is not AP, Tracer, or API. You can have it shipped to California. I know people here that had them before the ban and still shoot them. Chabot Gun Club allows 50 BMG on Monday only, and other ranges allow it.

CA has no law concerning .50 BMG ammo. Perfectly legal to buy and own all you want. PC 30530 makes .50 BMG rifles the equivalent to 'assault weapons', and penalizes unregistered possession and sales to non-exempt people.

PA, IN, KY, TX, SC, MS, & NC. I lived in - and owned firearms - in all those states, and the .50 was legal when I was there.

Each round of tracer ammo (except shotgun) is considered a felony in California.

Yes, but perhaps explain why it is so hard to acquire (true) AP for certain calibers

50 cal AP haven't been made since Korea. The surplus just dried up a few years ago. I used to pay less for AP than for ball.

Hell i know even NJ sells the Barrett legally to any civilian, and they have some weird gun laws there that are twisted as cali's.

                              It's just cali... sigh...
