Supply question, first time at outdoor range...

So instead of waiting the usual month and a half between trips to the family property to shoot my rifles, a friend and I have decided we're going to make a trip out to either the Davis street range or lake Chabot. Hooray!

However, being our first time I had a couple questions on what to bring. The guns n ammo are a given, of course. We're also going to be bringing out a small spotting scope. I was just wondering what else would be a good idea? Chairs? Blankets? Whistle and canteen? Considering the price of ammo, gas, and range fees coupled with the fact that I'm not earning nearly what I'd like to be per paycheck, I'd like to make every trip, including this first one, count and that means being prepared.

Also as a sidenote, between the two (Davis vs. Lake Chabot) does anyone have any preferences or opinions? I'd like to have at least a small grasp on what I'm going to be stepping into.

    Much thanks

No FMJ ammo allowed on the rifle range at Davis St. (Optimists)

I am guessing that will make your decision for you.

    Where are you coming from?

      - Guns.

      - Ammo for aforementioned guns (lots and lots of ammo!).

      - Food & snacky snacks.

      - Water & Gatorade (or equivalent electrolyte replacement drinks).

      - Sunscreen.

      - Bugjuice.

      - Clothing appropriate for current weather conditions AND inclement weather gear.

      - Camera / camcorder to document the day's events.

Maybe cleaning kit, some basic tools incase you need to disassemble/adjust your guns for some reason.

If the weather is chilly, some thin gloves as well.

        Hearing protection, plug and/or muff.

Some bags to collect brass, if you reload.

Fresh targets, maybe some Shoot-n-see types. Maybe some clay targets for fun. (Just lay some on back stop dirt, allowed on some ranges)

Some tapes or stapler to affix the target to the post.
'Cuz big holes are easier to see.

You can correct my spelling and grammar error anytime.
I welcome it. How else would I learn.

Do NOT take pics unles you have permission of the range master at Chabot!!

Chabot and Davis St. has you shooting at paper targets only. The shooting positions at both ranges have overhangs but it is a LOT nicer to shoot at Chabot as your have a LOT more space between shooting benches.... There are trees and tables at Chabot to relax at... and as the others have said.. Chabot allows FMJ ammo. I'm a member at both ranges (I'm also the Match Director at Chabot for the High Power matches) I shoot at Chabot a LOT more but I DO go to the Davis St. range more during the week to shoot handgun or play around with my .22's on the 100yd line first thing in the mornings.

Remember.. Chabot is only open Fridays, Saturdays,Sundays and Mondays.. The 200yd line is open on Fridays only.. unless I'm there and I open it up. Chabot is open 10am on weekdays (Friday and Monday) ans 9am on the weekends.

I thought Davis St. only allowed the .22's on the 50yard line, does membership have its privelages?

Well I DO know the rangemaster at Davis St. and since I'm a competition shooter and I'm there for only an hr during the early mornings, they let me shoot my 22's at 100yds.. but if it gets crowded I have to put the 22's away... all my 22's I shoot, can shoot 1" or less at 100yds and that is why they aren't worried about me.
