    Need to renew my HSC

Do I have to take the test again, or will it get renewed like a Driver's License?

Repeat silly test and pay fee again.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

Actually you don't have to take the test again, I renewed my last year at Turner's, I just showed them my old card and paid the fee, no retest.
Gun control is a 1" group at 500 yds!

Maybe I need to go renew mine; I'm currently using it for a bookmark. Just haven't bought any handguns in a long while.

You never know when you might need it, better to have it. Of course I wish we didn't need it at all, it is just an additional gun tax.

Get a CCW permit instead...where applicable of course. But $35 is a good start.

So Turner's in SoCal won't make you retake the silly test. How about the Bay Area?

Everyone should always carry their HSC and keep it current. You never know when you might need your Handgun Shopping Card!!

I poked around at the DOJ page, http://oag.ca.gov/firearms/hscinfo, and in the Penal Code (starting with 31610) and nothing seems to describe the HSC renewal process.

Edited for the next PC, PC 31650

                    (b) An applicant to renew a handgun safety certificate shall be
required to pass the objective test
                    . The certified instructor may
charge a fee of twenty-five dollars ($25), fifteen dollars ($15) of
which is to be forwarded to the department pursuant to subdivision
                    (c).

hunter is right at least for turners but you have to have the old card otherwise they make you retest. maybe the thought is if you have the old one you have passed the test?

I will make you take the test for a renewal. It is my understanding it is required. Silly, but so is the whole HSC law. It is pure harassment of potential gun purchasers.

It's a silly law but the best course of action is to re-study for the test in case the tester requires it.
