    Need advice on shooting classes

So I've decided to pull my wife a little harder to "our" side. She is not so much of an anti but just never had the interest in guns. I've mentioned a safety/intro course and it seemed to me that she would go for. I just hope that she will feel more comfortable and might even want to go to the range once in a while. Perfect outcome would be her getting into it and asking for a pistol of her own. (I can dream can't I?)

I wouldn't mind taking a course also since I was introduced top shooting by friends and never took one.

So I was wondering if you guys could share some experiences/opinions/suggestions.

    Stuff like what/where/when to take.

Even though it would only cover the basics, what I envision is something like a morning or 3/4 of a day at the range getting her introduced to the basics of handgun, shotgun and rifle altogether? Is it possible/recommended?

What is the best place to go? (We live in Irvine and would be better to do it on a Friday)

How much am I looking at?

    Thanks for your input

See if there are any NRA Women on Target classes in your area. Or a First Shots program. Probably the least expensive way for your wife to see if she has any interest at all.

Or you could have her take a class of these people: http://www.calgunstraining.com/

The owner/operator is a Calguns member.

Start with ONE area, such as handgun and work out to shotgun, rifle from there.

Get her confident and comfortable in one area before moving on. If you were into skeet, I'd start there. If not, then handgun.

If possible, start her with a .22 handgun before moving up to 9mm.

.40 & .45 although not heavy recoiling, are not as good a choice for learning as 9mm given the lower recoil and price.

Try to get into a course that covers drawing from a holster and reholstering at the very least.

http://www.internationaltactical.com but it looks like its sat/sun only unless you do a private lesson. Just look at Uncle Scotty's resume.

If she wants to sit in a classroom and do little shooting, then a NRA class is for her.

If she wants to learn how to shoot defensively then I'd suggest an intro/tactical course.

I might be biased here, but I like to think my Defensive Pistol 1 class is a good intro class for people.

Edit: I forgot to mention, my class gives a certificate that is recognized by AZ for their CCW application.

It can be a delicate thing for a husband to persuade a wife to develop an interest in guns. If she is resistant, don't push. She has to find her own way. Sometimes the best way to squash her interest is to pressure her into it.

Cornered Cat is a great website to learn about guns. It's run by Kathy Jackson a great shooter and teacher. The emphasis is on educating women about firearms. Click around and see what's there, maybe leave it open on the computer when your wife is going to go online.

I started my wife with a small Colt Ace and Smith .22 revolver. Went to a local gun range. I let her out-shoot me (Confidence builder). She had fun.
But the follow week I had to go to Glen Ivy Hot Spring with her. Rubbed mud on her back.
Trust me, if your wife has no interest in guns, THAT"S A GOOD THING!

Grey Group Training. It looks like Larry Vickers will be in Chino on 8/25 for a two day level 1 pistol class. Price is 525.

One small problem to look for early: see if she her dominant eye is opposite her firing hand. I hear this is more common among women than men. Looking back to when I took my wife out to shoot the first time, it would have been more comfortable to her if we had worked on this beforehand instead of while she was on the firing line.

Greg Block has a good intro course. Half class room time reviewing saftey, laws, and the basics of handguns. Half range time. He also has female instructors for women in the class.
