How low is lowball low?

I have bought 8 guns through Calguns over the last 7 months. In that time, I've had one offer ignorred, apparently because the seller thought my 92% of asking price was too low. I've seen several posts where the seller states that "low ballers will be ignored". That made me wonder what the forum members consider as too low to be ignored.
If the seller is asking 400$, is a offer of 360$ ridiculous? How about and offer of 1100 for a 1200$ advertised price? I think losing a gun you want or want to sell for a difference of a tank of gas is silly.

No offense intended, but if the "tank of gas" price difference is silly and insignificant, then why don't you go ahead and offer the asking price? If it's silly for the seller to accept nothing less, it's just as silly for you not to offer more, when the price difference is as trivial as you say.

I think you're right. I'm not sure if there is a solid equation to identify a low ball offer. I say if your offer is ignored so be it. It will all depend on what the seller thinks is a fair offer.

I don't think that offering what ever you want is a bad thing. I do know at least on the items that I have sold that I tend to post them at very low/competitive prices and I think that shows when the sales I have made have been for what I listed them as.

Usually people who post that are emotionally attached or think they are sitting on a goldmine. Offer what you think is fair, if they think it is too low, they can counter offer, ignore you, or tell you to go F#$% yourself. If they are taking offers, they have to expect offers below what they are asking, otherwise just list the price as FIRM.

No such thing . . . it is just an offer of another alternative to the seller. Having alternatives is a good thing.

When and if I decide to sell anything, not just guns, I put the price I will accept. I will not haggle or consider a lower price. Period. $XXX firm.

no, no, i'm not talking about a specific sale that i had a problem with. my b*lls are big to bust :}

if the seller/buyer are 100 dollars off, then should the seller just split the difference of 50$ or maybe give buyer a 35$ discount, for the dros? but to just 'ignore' a potential sale for 35-50$ is what i consider silly. firm, of course, changes the equation.

IMHO offer whatever you feel is fair through pm only though. The posted offers are in bad taste.

Typically when I'm in the market for goods I'll just wait to find what I want at the price I want it.

The one behavior I greatly dislike is when you reach a tentative agreement and agree to a meeting place to finish the deal only to have the buyer show up and start renegotiating/lowballing you.

The answer varies with the seller. I have not made offers on some where they stated that the price is firm. When I checked back later I found that they reduced the price because it didn't sell and then sold it for less than what I would have offered. Sellers should consider offers in case their gun(s) don't sell but some get all butt hurt if you offer less than their asking price.

It's different for everyone, to me it's not so much how much is offered as how the offer is made.

If I get a message that says "I can offer you $xxx.xx for that" or something along those lines, I will usually consider and then send a message back with my reply. Nothing bad about trying to get a good deal.

However if it's more "You must be crazy asking that much for that piece of junk, I'll do you a favor and give you $xxx.xx for it if you meet me at (gun store far away) this afternoon, take it or leave it", I delete the message without consideration, sometimes add the person to my ignore list.

I'm not particularly hard up for cash, so even if the polite message is a bit lower, if I am going to accept something in that range I will sell to the person who wasn't a dick about it.

Thats not even near lowball. A good seller would politely decline and or counter
