    HANDGUNS magazine

I just received an offer to get 2 years 12 issues subscription for $12. I assume that everybody get it....

So is it this magazine worth a $1? Or all that it is worth is $1? Any opinions?

The essence of Western civilization is the Magna Carta, not the Magna Mac. The fact that non-Westerners may bite into the later has no implications for their accepting the former.

EDIT 2020: To be fair that seems to apply to many Westerners also.

I had several years worth of this mag, not worth it IMHO. All the info they give you can pretty much find here for free or elsewhere on public forums. The paper it is printed on is pretty cheap, too. The parent company is Peterson Publishing, they also do Guns & Ammo (I had that magazine for awhile too). I wouldn't bother. If you want a top notch publication, go for something like American Handgunner - much better photography, and higher quality glossy paper. Costs more, though.

I agree. It is hard to get a honest review out of most of them.
sigpicIf you loan someone twenty dollars and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

IMO the only gun rag worth anything is Shotgun News. It's cheap and weekly.

Gun Test Magazine is the only reviews I really trust in any publication. They accept no advertising dollars, nor do they accept "test sample" guns from manufacturers. They get money from subscription fees, buy guns at real gun shops, test the guns, and write up good, concise reviews.

Some manufacturers use their reviews in their advertising (Kahr comes to mind, I think there's an article about the PM9 on their website), kind of like Volvo using the IIHS reviews of their cars in their commercials.

Send me $12 and I'll lie to you every month for two years.

I'll tell you that every gun that I test is great no matter how crappy it performs and the more money that manufacturer spends on advertising in my magazine the better that their guns will be.
