Red dot make you more visible to NV?

The emitters on red dots or holographic sights are highly monochromatic and tuned to visible light, meaning that the sight should not put out any invisible near-IR that would be detectable with NV equipment yet would not be visible to your own eyes.
In a darkened room turn the red dot up to maximum brightness. If the dot is visible out the front that effect will be magnified with NV. Most inexpensive red dots will have some light leakage out the front, better quality red dots will have lens coatings that reflect ~100% of the light from the emitter back to the user's eye. -

If you're going up against people with night vision, you might want to rethink your purpose in life a little bit.

Youd be surpriewd who has NV. NV is alot more prevalent now than some might think. Acquiantance of mine had some PVS 14s stolen during a break in homeinvasion.Comment

Just because an acquaintance had some doesn't mean you should. What would the purpose of these be exactly? For home defense, it would help lawyers string you up here in CA while the NV goggles would probably have little to no benefits over just a tactical light.Last edited by Whatisthis?; 07-16-2012, 8:52 PM.Comment

What I meant is that "bad guys" have NV. I'm sure it's floating around out there. I'm not buying NV but I dont want my shotgun configured in a way that gives up my position too easy. And as far as a light goes a weapon mounted light is a bullet magnet. The last thing you want to do as a lone defender is reveal your position in any way(Tac light).Last edited by RuggedJay; 07-16-2012, 10:21 PM.Comment

Bad guys, as in typical crooks that break into homes? What type of bad guys carry NV?Comment

not sure where you get your "home defense tactical info" from, but i would recommend you do some reading and take some classes to have a better understanding when it comes to tac-lights in home defense situationWhat I meant is that "bad guys" have NV. any case, if you go up against invaders with NV, you might as well not worry about an optic sight cuz those guys probably work in teams of 4 or 6, have bullet proof armor, and will flashbang the crap out of your bedroom before heading out with your belongings...

just a thought, wouldnt a tac-light be the ultimate tool against NV?HiComment

Please explain how lawyers would string up a home owner for possessing/using something they sell at Big 5.
Something that does nothing more than make it easier to see in low light.
(stuff gives me a headache, but some people do like it as it does confer a tactical advantage)"You will never know how much it has cost my generation to preserve your freedom. I hope you will make good use of it."

I can second that some thieves use night vision monoculars or goggles. I have caught a few using them in the last two years trying to steal copper and machine parts. I guess they got somewhat smart when their tweeker buddies get caught because of flashlights.I'd rather be judged by twelve than carried by six.

But don't you have a flash hider? That makes you invisible when spraying automatic fire from the hip.
