SCAR 17 barrel life, what is it.

I was told 10,000 rounds was the life of the barrel, is this true. And is that rated in full auto of semi auto.

What would be the procedure for replacing the barrel, will FNH do this for you or as i have been told again its time to get rid of the rifle, I have heard some gun shop fud in my time but this i need some clarification on.

In the future i would rather pay to replace the barrel than ditch the whole rifle.

All that being said its going to be along time til i hit the 10,000 round mark, but i would still like to know.

2004 Special Operations Forces Combat Assault Rifle Requirements
"Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) requirements included Mean Rounds between Stoppage (MRBS) of 2000 (Threshold) and 8000 (Objective); Mean Rounds between Failure (MRBF) of 15,000 (T) and 50,000 (O); Weapon Service Life of 15,000 rounds (T) and 90,000 rounds (O); and Barrel Service Life of 10,000 rounds (T) and 50,000 rounds (O). As a modular system, there was a threshold requirement for both a 5.56mm SCAR-Light (SCAR-L) and a 7.62mm SCAR-Heavy (SCAR-H). An objective requirement also existed for additional barrels for each variant that would allow current and future ammunition."

    So, it's between 10,000-50,000 rounds.

@ $0.40 per round, you'd spend $12,000 in ammo before you would approach the need to replace the barrel. IIRC, barrel assemblies were around $600-$700 from FN whenever I checked into it a while back.

If you can afford to shoot 10,000rd , you can afford to buy another 17

Replacing the barrel is relatively easy. If you can properly replace the barrel on an AR-15, then you'll be able to do it on the SCAR. Replacement barrels are already currently available.

And if you ever install the PWS SCAR rail, installation actually requires you to remove your barrel.

Thanks guys for the info and i am sure at the rate in which i shoot my rifle plus the cost of ammo i will never need another barrel. Just wanted to here a different version than the crap that some put out in gun stores.
