I'm partial to Benjamin this is a great gun for the money. Nitro pistons are pretty quite too, with the HW stock it feels like a nice rifle and has plenty of power to boot.

You can shop I found mine for 188$ shipped last year

Go for nitro pistons. The are quiet and can be cocked for a long time. I had a Gamo Whisper with nitro piston installed. Got it at Pyramidair.

Big 5 often has the Benjamin Nitro Pistons with regular stock for $169 in .177cal...about 1,000FPS with lead pellets.
It's kinda the "hot" break-barrel air gun right now.
The .22s are the same price but harder to find, your store may have to order one for you.

Left to right...Benjamin NP, Gamo Whisper, Winchester / Daisy:

I bought this Benjamin as a refurbished - great price. Read the reviews - looked new to me. Put on a better 3-9x scope and drill squirrels daily. Highly recommended.

Where I live, you can't really use something that shoots 1000 fps. I like using my old Benjamin model 342 pump up for squirrel control. I've had this gun since 1974 and it still works great. I like the adjustable power so I can use lower velocity in the various "danger zones" around my yard and use high power where I can get away with it. I recommend .22 caliber also for pest control.

What range will you be shooting?
I have had a seridan for years and the drawback is the volume when you go over 5 pumps
                    The upside to pump
                    Lasts a long time
Leave it loaded for a long time
It does not recoil like the pneumatics

If you look at the pneumatic guns, look for the ones you can leaved cocked for a long time

Some of the springers really have a drop in fps after 200-300 rounds

It is not a huge deal as 700 fps will still destroy a squirrel

My uncle took out his neighbors double paned window shooting a critter off of the bird feeder

Now he only takes squirrels on the ground
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
                    (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

22 cal Benjamin Trail np. The biggest sell point for me was it has no plastic. You'll have to improve the trigger to make it nice though. It comes with a screw to adjust the trigger, you'll need to install a screw twice as long to take out the excessive travel. Great gun for squirrels

Gamo bigcat. 120-140$ish. Powerful and accurate. Imo best bang for the buck. Dont let the plastic deterr you. Its very robust plastic. Anymore than that, i'd say go for a pcp rifle instead.

Sportsman's Whorehouse had the Crosman Benjamin Trail Nitro Piston .22 for $179 a couple weeks ago. Maybe they'll come up for sale again. It's nice and quiet and packs a wallop. The plastic is pretty heavy duty and it has a fixed picatinney rail for ease of mounting optics. It comes with a questionable 3-9x40 scope.

For a few dollars more you can get a wood stock version from Amazon:
