my magazine that came with my rifle it's a magpul 10 round magazine. if I load ten rounds it does not clip on my rifle. but when I put 9 rounds it's clips on fine. I got another same magazine, and loaded with ten rounds and it clips on fine. I put it side by side and everything looks the same. any ideas what the issue is?

AR-15 mag question

It's because the piece that's blocking it to 10 rounds is slightly longer. "normal" large capacity mags will have room to push the top round down. Some people blocking mags err on the side of caution instead of risking the ability to force an 11th round in.
It's normal.Comment

Same here. When I have my 10 round (9 acutally) magpul magazine in it will not seat w/ 10 rounds. When I load it w/ 9 rounds the magazine will seat but gives me problems when the bolt is locked back. It disables my B.A.D. lever and I'm forced to manually charge the weapon to chamber a round. Not reason enough to toss them but kind of a pain. I believe this is normal with these re-builds.NRA Member

Wait... what? How does 9 rounds in the mag disable a bolt release, but charging it normally works? The CH can only pull rearward on the BCG, not forward...Same here. While having the bolt locked back with the mag inserted I cannot release my bolt catch (b.a.d. lever). I have to manually pull back on the charging handle and let the bolt fly forward for it to chamber.NRA Member

That's kind of what I figured it was. On the 10/20 magpul rebuild it is impossible for me to load the mag with ten rounds and I barely fit 9, I also notice with 9 rounds loaded there is very little spring play. I figured that was probaly it and the only thing I noticed. I am using the buffer and spring that my bushmaster xt-15 patrolman came with. I've had no other issues than with these magazines.NRA Member

I have 10 round magpul stubbies (20 rounders cut down to 10 round length) from Midwest PX that fit all 10 and the BHO works. They cost a bit more than some of the 10/20 or 10/30s but are nice if you don't want the extra and unused length.
