Do you guys think that ammo prices will ever come back down to sane levels? Or are they ridiculously high forever? I barely shoot my 1911-A1 anymore, too expensive. That was the allure of my new Mosin, the ammo is still insanely cheap.

You mean good deals? Private sales? Currently they're price gouging.
I'd still call them sane. I haven't been around as long as a lot of folks but my measure of "cheap" is $300 for 1,000 rounds of 5.56 ammo. Currently it's $350 -375 if you really must have it.
If I can get it at under $350ish I'm pulling out the plastic.Last edited by FourLoko; 07-07-2012, 2:56 PM.Comment

My measure of cheap .223 was 169.00 per 1k from some number of years ago. Thank goodness for surplus Russian ammo, that really is the only cheap ammo left.NRA Certified Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor, Shotgun Instructor and Range Safety Officer

When I got my first .45 ACP winchester white box value pack of 100rds wast 19.97 at walmart. that was in 2004 and back then I thought that was pretty high. Now I would be happy if it was back to those prices.NRA Endowment Life Member

Start reloading. The price for components increases as well, but I can still load 250 rounds of 9mm for $12.50 in components, not casting my own boolits. 50 rounds of 9mm at walmart is up to $12.50 right now.
But a funny thing about ammo shortages. My local walmart hasn't had Tula .223 for a couple months, so I gave up and went to the Fresno gun show today and picked up a case. I swing by walmart on the way home to get some dinner, and they're stocked with Tula .223. Could have saved myself $20 in gas and gun show admission if i'd have known that this morning!Last edited by G60; 07-07-2012, 3:17 PM."Any unarmed people are slaves, or are subject to slavery at any given moment." - Dr. Huey P. No ammo shortage for me, I can reload for all but 1 gun I own. Components have gone up in price but you can still find good deals if you look around"You see in this world theres two kinds of people my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig... You Dig" Blondie from TGBUComment

There are some websites trying to sell Wolf WPA .223 at $360-400 for a 1000rds which is ridiculous. The less you give a damn the happier you will be.Comment

Rhut roh! Bear Creek 125gr Truncated Cone went to $35/500. That makes my 9mm about $11/100.
Thankfully I gave enough .45 to last a couple of years.
Time to start casting my own..."He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.

Walmart has plenty of ammo.
Too bad that it's in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Not only is it not locked, it wasn't even behind a counter. They didn't sell guns though.Never initiate force against another.
