What's it worth?

Hey guys, I have a stripped Colt AR-15 lower receiver for 9mm ammo I am looking to sell to a local FFL dealer. It is in mint condition. I have no idea what it is worth. Can anybody advise me what a fair market value would be? I don't want to get ripped off by the dealer.

Is it a banned receiver or registered as an AW? If so, you will run into problems. If it is an unregistered but banned receiver, you need to delete this thread and contact an attorney regarding unlawful possession of an assault weapon.

Yes, it is registered, I have the necessary paperwork, it is on the band list. So does this mean, I will never be able to sell it?

You can not sell a RAW inside CA, you need to find an FFL with an assault weapon permit to have them transfer it out of the state

you just have to find an AW FFL to sell it for you out of state. may or may not be worth it. why not just build it up?

Worth about two farthings or three pfennings.

Probably not worth the hassle to sell it. It will not command a premium out of state, and you'll have to pay a FFL to ship it for you I believe. It wouldn't be too hard to think that you'd get $150 bucks for it, and after two hours of your time be out $100 selling it.

Save it and build it up. You are one of a lucky few to have a RAW lower.

Why would anyone want to sell a stripped RAW lower? You're not going to get that much more than any other brand. You're going to have to sell it out of state. And you're going to lose the right to build up a RAW.

If you already own it and it is legally registered as a RAW, build it up and shoot it..!

You will spend more to sell it out of state than its worth. They sell for about $150 new on GB. I would expect 1/2-2/3 for a used one, so $75-$100. It will cost quite a bit of that sale price to get it transfered out of state, plus your time and gas to run it to the FFL with assault weapon permit to process and ship it. My best guess is that you would be lucky to break even.

I would leave it sit in the safe incase you build it up down the line.

But if you just have to have it gone take it to the PD and turn it in. It would be the easiest and least time consuming.

I cringe to think of perfectly good guns being destroyed but if legal circumstances would be forcing him to sell it, I could see it being done. Otherwise I would let it sit in the safe until I'm dead. It really isn't worth the time and hassle to ship out of state, it is nothing special outside CA.
