Should I have to kill anyone in self defense, I fully expect to be in jail or living on the streets within a year, and to lose all of my guns. I'd also expect to lose my career. I'm sure my wife would stick around throughout it all, but it'd suck for her to go through it.

I'm pretty pessimistic, but it's also why I don't get any real jollies at the thought of shooting someone.

      1. Always expect a grieving mother who's upset that her "little boy who was just getting his act together" got gunned down. If I don't lose the civil case, the defense attorney costs will leave me bankrupt and I'll probably lose the house.

      2. I'd expect a cranky DA to paint me as a gun-crazy loon, which will probably get all my guns and reloading supplies seized. I'd also expect several AW/MG charges thrown in since that seems to be the norm. Wouldn't expect to get any of it back for years, if ever. They'd probably do the AB2728 "It'll cost you more than the price of the gun to get it back" thing on my entire collection.

      3. In IT, you're expected to have a clean criminal record. Just the time wasted fighting the inevitable charges would be enough to cost me my current job, and once that's over with I might or might not be able to get a job afterwards. But, I'd probably be left with a civil judgement against me I'd never get out from under financially.

So... financially ruined, career over, loss of all assets. Shooting someone else pretty much ends your own life too, is the way I see it.
