So I was in my LGS over the weekend to pick up reloading supplies, and I overheard two employees debating on whether a CA ID was acceptable for purchasing a firearm. One was stating that a drivers license and registration/ utility bill was necessary, the other stated that a CA Identification card (not driverse license) and registration/ utility bill would suffice. Now correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't a CA identification card and DMV registration/ utility be enough to purchase a firearm?

State ID cards are the same thing as a DL when it comes to buying guns.
Handguns require 2 forms of ID. So a car registration or utility bill plus your state DL or ID card will be enough.
Long guns Generally require 1 form of ID, so your state ID card or DL should suffice.Comment

I assume you didn't buy a handgun. Longguns only require one form of ID, DL will suffice.
This ^^ is correct.State ID cards are the same thing as a DL when it comes to buying guns.

By reading the law, can you guess which one is correct?
Penal Code 26815
No firearm shall be delivered:
(c) Unless the purchaser, transferee, or person being loaned the firearm presents clear evidence of the person's identity and age to the dealer.
Penal Code 16400
As used in this part, "clear evidence of the person's identity and age" means either of the following:
(a) A valid California driver's license.
(b) A valid California identification card issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Penal Code 26845
(a) No handgun may be delivered unless the purchaser, transferee, or person being loaned the firearm presents documentation indicating that the person is a California resident.
(b) Satisfactory documentation shall include a utility bill from within the last three months, a residential lease, a property deed, or military permanent duty station orders indicating assignment within this state, or other evidence of residency as permitted by the Department of Justice.
(c) The firearms dealer shall retain a photocopy of the documentation as proof of compliance with this requirement.Last edited by Quiet; 07-02-2012, 10:31 AM.sigpic

And FUD, 'Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt', is not a synonym for 'wrong'.
FUD essentially requires motive - it's a kind of lying.

The EMPLOYEES were debating this?
I've often wondered how a gun store could possibly go out of business in the past three or so years. Now I know."He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.
You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.
You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."
