I always bring ammo to the gunstore. At least 11 rounds. I never show it to anybody though.

Sorry if I dont know anything. I bought ammo fat cow palace, then went to a gun shop to buy a handgun. Maybe I was wrong, I just wanted to confirm the gun is suit for my ammo. The store owner asked me out then banned me forever.
so, did I do anything wrong?

Not a wise idea anyway. If you were to handle a gun and pull out a round to "see if it fits", someone might shoot you.

Yes you did. That is how gun stores get robbed with their own guns. A BG will ask to look at a gun, then pull out a loaded mag and slide it in and attempt to rob the place. That's also how some people have commited suicide, same procedure.

A gun will be marked with the caliber. There's no need to "see if it fits".

ETA: You're supposed to choose a gun first, then make sure you get the correct ammo for it. Not the other way around. (this does not apply to C&R licensees who will often buy obscure ammo in the hopes of finding a still functioning relic to fire it in )

Because they think you might be an a**hole that wants to commit suicide, or maybe hold it up.

I'd've run your arse out too.

First, welcome to Cal Guns.. You definately came to the right place for information. Feel free to ask any questions that you might have, Everyone will try to give you the best legal answer. You definately did the wrong thing like many others have said it. Many of us have done dumb stuff in the past as well. The best thing is that you learned something today and you will probably not do it again.. Take your time and read and ask questions here before you decide to go buy a handgun/rifle/shotgun so that you will be prepared when you finally go buy your gun. Good luck and hope that you find the gun for your ammo. BTW, what caliber ammo did you buy?

                  I concur.

No reason to BYO ammo to a gun store.

'Seeing if it fits' is not cool, as has been pointed out. Beside, ammo is pretty much standardized - if a gun says 9mm Para, it's going to shoot 99.9% of 9mm Para ammo.

Even if they have a range and let you test fire guns, I really doubt they'd let you use your own ammo in an unpurchased gun.

WHAT!!! I have no idea what you mean by that. Either your a troll or you are in need of some common sense. Please, for your sake and for anybody around you go get some firearms training before going out and buying one. You scare me.

You've got to be new to guns. Go get yourself some intro gun training at Bullseye in San Rafael or Jackson Arms in SSF. Get yourself in tune with the safety issues & responsibilties of a gun owner. Then sit for your Handgun Safety Cert, join the NRA, ask questions & learn. You'll be surprise at how far you will go after a couple of months.

Like what people have said before, doing what you did would have gotten you hurt if not dead. That does not do anyone any good. Welcome to the board.

I think he meant to say Thank you all! He's missing the K.

Calm down, it looks like a typo for "Thank you all"
