    Just got my Rifleman's Patch

Did my first Appleseed shoot this weekend and I must say the experience was awesome. Great instruction and great people. If you haven't been to one yet, do yourself a favor and jump in.

        Congratulations!

        Questions:
        Where did you attend?
What was the most valuable thing you learned?
        How hard was it?
What put your score over the top?

Yea I did mine two weeks ago in Corona and it was a fantastic event. Being both days, it is a significant time investment, but it is definitely worth it. It teaches not only marksmanship but the heritage and values that established our country.

You can use just about any rifle. We had everything from 10/22 and Marlin 795's all the way up to AR's and a Garand. You will want to make sure it has sling on it, which can be added to just about anything.

A padded shooting mat is helpful as you spend lots of time in the prone position. I used a cheapie yoga mat we had around and have no complaints.

If you're on the fence about going to an Appleseed: DO IT!

Where did you attend? Sacramento Valley
What was the most valuable thing you learned? How to use a sling to support the position
How hard was it? took me 5 tries
What put your score over the top?Lol finding my "bubble" after Nukechaser marked my target with the number of shots per target
I kept losing count and shooting the wrong number of shots into the prone targets. After laughing it off, numbers were put next to each target(I still couldn't see them). I relaxed after that and shot a 212

Through Project Appleseed, the Revolutionary War Veterans Association is committed to teaching two things: rifle marksmanship and our early American heritage. We do this for one simple reason, the skill and knowledge of what our founding fathers left to us is eroding in modern America and without deliberate action, they will be lost to ignorance and apathy.

A: An AR platform rifle works just fine at Appleseed.
B: No ride? You need to drag along a friend with a car!

It's good to reach marksmanship goals. Took me nearly 3 years to get my Distinguished Rifleman badge. Frustrating at times, but the trials and tribulations make the achievements so much more satisfying.

How does it compare with an "Expert" rifle rating from the Army?

                              Anyone have experience with both?
