how does gunbroker work?

Depends on the seller. Each auction will state payments accepted. They will want your ffl information sent to them and they will send your item to your ffl. Make sure they ship to California, some won't.

Can't say anything about if shippers will send it to California. Payment wise if you are selling you set up an account like Ebay and they take their fees from your credit card.
If you are a buyer there is no buyers premium or anything like that.
Usually the seller will send a statement after the auction closes.
You will get an email from gunbroker with the sellers contact info but that is also available to you after the auction closes and you have won it.Comment

Most sellers want either a USPS or regular money order. Many who have a business like a pawn shop will take a credit card for payment. To get an account, even just to buy stuff, you have to give GB a valid credit card. They do check every so often if it's still valid. If you sell, you can mail in your fees via check or money order. You can list as much as you want for free, except for "extras" like thumbnail pics. It's a lot better system then Ebay fee wise, but less people see your stuff compared to Ebay. Ebay is better for selling non "restricted" gun stuff, as it has way more traffic. I've seen a lot of "restricted" stuff slip thru on Ebay like hi cap mags & other things Ebay has problems with. The largest issue with GunBroker is all the sellers clueless about CA laws. Many won't sell anything to CA because they believe crap from "authorities" like Sportsman's Guide & Cheaper Than Dirt. Many sellers think FFL's are authority figures, so if you have a good knowledgeable & friendly local FFL, you have a better chance at overcoming the no sales to CA crap. Give the sellers your FFL contact info & let them know if the FFL accepts the item, they take responsibility for the legality of it. CA DOJ will prosecute a CA FFL for possessing/selling an illegal item before they go after someone in another state.Comment

each vendor/seller on Gunbroker is independent of other sellers; payment options will be stated by seller.
read all rules of Gunbroker and seller prior to bidding. ensure that seller will ship gun to california; many sellers will not ship guns to california.
prior to bidding, ensure that the gun you are interested in can be legally transferred to you after shipment to your receiving FFL.
read the feedback rating of seller prior to bidding. don't just look at the numbers; read the feedback. this is your opportunity to get a take on the level of satisfaction that past buyers have had with this seller.
if you have questions for seller, ask before bidding. don't be shy about asking questions. if pictures posted are not clear enough for you, ask for more pictures. ensure that what is pictured is actual item you'll be bidding on, or that it is not. if you are concerned about return policy, most sellers have a stated policy; read it.
know in advance who your receiving FFL will be on gun purchase, and what the charges (including DROS fee) for transfer will be to you from receiving FFL; this will be separate and in addition to costs paid to seller.Comment
