AR 80% Online Firearm Ownership Record

I have tryed search and google, I am more confused.

Has anyone here built a AR Pistol 80% SSE and registered
it thru CA Firearm Ownership Record $19.00 online. Is this the
same as drois thru FFL. If so why would I want to do this?

I haven't done it, but I'm considering it for my AR pistol. The three reasons I'm aware of are:

1) If accidentally getting in trouble for illegal concealment, the crime gets charged as a misdemeanor if registered to you, and a felony if not
2) Many LEO's incorrectly believe all handguns need to be registered, so having it registered may smooth over these encounters with the ignorant
3) AR pistols are one of those more rare guns that LEO's won't necessarily know the legalities of. Having it show up as registered to your name may smooth over LEO encounters when they are concerned about an illegal firearm

If you do it online is it the same as through a FFL.

What would be the downside.

The form asks for Handgun Safety Certificate (HSC) No.:
I bought my pistols before this. Should i get it before applying.

What is the point of building an 80% lower if you're going to register it? Why not just DROS a stripped lower and save a lot of hassle?

Because the roster says they can't. Pistols must be on the roster or exempt. An ar lower is not dimensionally or functionally compliant with roster exemptions. (NRF's aside)
