    Recovering DROS info?

My dad has an old Ruger Police Service Six .357 revolver that he got around 1980. Would it be possible to get the DROS for that revolver now?

if it was entered into the system, there is a form that your dad can fill out to see if it is listed as being registered to him.

If not, you can go to the buisness where he bought it (if they are still around) and go through their archived 4473's to find it. (they probably won't be happy about it thought)

If the FFL is out of buisness the 4473 forms are all in a big wharehouse at the BATFE.

For some reason I was under the impression that the DROS would go to the CA DoJ or w/e state's DoJ that you reside in. Does it only go to the ATF?

Where can I find one of these forms?

"DROS" is a California thing. In 1980's, I don't recall the state having their own paper work. I could be wrong. Anyway, the 4473 is a federal form and has nothing to do with the California Dealer Record Of Sale. Now, Ca DOJ (BoF) does keep a record of evey handgun sale.

One of the reasons I'm concerned about DROS and 4473 info is for proof of ownership of firearms. In addition to my dad's revolver, my 10/22 was in his name and I don't think he kept any of the info on that either.
