Just wondering how many have bought or sold firearms on CL?


I recently posted a firearm on CL and got a huge amount of interest before it got flagged. But not the type I want to deal with. In the 4 hours it was posted I had two guys try talking me into cash and carry on a modern firearm and 3-4 offering about 50-75% of asking price. When I politely declined the low offer I had one guy email me about every other hour wondering if I had changed my mind.


I know it is against their policy but it still happens quite often. Figured I would test the waters. But no thanks I'll stick to the market place here, much better crowd.

i search and find firearm parts/ accessories but never actual firearms.. but i wouldnt actually buy a firearm from someone on craigslist anyways..

I purchased a Desert Eagle 50AE off someone on CL about a month ago. It was a great price, met the guy at the FFL and did the inspection. Paid the man and FFL, then picked up a couple weeks later.

I doubt I would ever try to sell a gun on CL though. Too much hassle to deal with. I'd try selling here in the forums first if I ever had a need to sell.

Every now and then i find a great deal on a gun on CL. The sellers can be a little weird, but as long as it's a legit transfer (FFL or C&R) I don't turn down a good deal.

If he is gonna get denied for the background check (DROS). Shouldn't it fail him in the store in the 10 minutes it takes for them to run the report? Then if he fails, you could give him his money back minus the $35 for them to transfer it back to you. Or am I mistaken on this?

Craigslist, backpage...The BEST people on earth to deal with! Ive tried selling and buying cars on there. Here are the usual results-Selling...I would be offered pennies on the dollar, tattoos, offers to buy the car from Nigeria, Ill send you a check, even "I can make payments, but I cant get financed at a dealership"...Ok. Also, if you list a car anywhere similar to someone elses model for the same price or less, get ready for an unwarranted flag.
Buying-I find a LOT of switched/stolen plate cars (can be verified by anyone who runs plate through DMVs smog history website). Total p.o.s. cars whos owners think its a Rolls Royce, pictures of the car 10 years ago or someone elses car altogether.
CL and BP is great if your a pimp, prostitute or transvestite, because thats all that seems to sell there.

Never a gun, but I've sold lots of items, from there sold 2 good quality cars. And purchased a lot from there I find it good because for private party cars its $50 for autotrader or free on craigslist.

I don't think they run the NICS check while you are there, I could be wrong. Even if they did thats just the federal check, CA DROS is often worse. Anyway I no longer disire the need to deal with this crowd. especially when dealing with firearms.

I bought 2 Mosin carbines locally through CL. The guy was actually relieved that I sounded normal, knew about firearm transfer laws and had an 03FFL. He said he had gotten some bizarre calls.

I also bought a Savage 22WMR rifle through CL. We met at a local FFL for the PPT.

I've bought and sold dozens of items, including vehicles and never had a problem. For example, I sold an older Altima a few years ago. Most recently, I bought a pick up truck, a quad for my son and a motorcycle for me. All of these were painless and easy.

Closest I ever had to a "problem" was last year. I had a guy who was immature and a bit flaky. After a lot of text messages, and low balling, he agreed to meet me at a local mall to buy some gas cans I had for sale. I go there and after the appointed time, he texts me that he's running an hour late.

I told him to forget it as the aggravation wasn't worth the gain. Turned around and sold them a few days later for asking price to a nice guy who picked them up here at the house.

Never bought a gun there but did buy an old C&R on a PPT from a guy who says he watches CL close for guns and that good deals can be had.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've always been polite and professional and that pretty much describes just about everyone who I have done business with on CL.
