Ammo choices for the range

Well I placed a order for the ammo I normally use at the range, they were out and offered to send me another ammo, slightly more expensive but at no cost to me.

The ammo they sent was the Blazer Brass .40 180 gr. I normally use Federal Champion .40 180 gr. I was going to make a new order but they are still out of my choice. They both shoot about the same accuracy wise, the BB is slightly more dirty. Slightly more dirty is one issue, but when shooting the BB I get hit with what looks like small shrapnel.

I am looking at ordering the Federal American Eagle in the bulk packs any thoughts on this vs the Federal Champion? I am willing to consider others but I can get these for $14.99 vs $13.99 for the BB no shipping on either choice. I don't mind the extra buck if I can avoid the shrapnel.

I try to shoot American Eagle in all my rifles( 30-06, .308 Win.). It burns clean and I've only had one squib in 800 rounds.

They are both made by Federal, the difference being the Champion jacket is slightly thinner.

They should both be fine. Both are far better than Blazer.

crazy to hear that. I went through a good 3200 rounds of 8mm 1950s yugoslav milsurp over the course of about 4months a couple years back and I can only recall 1 bad round. that was a super nervous moment, i was green and 8mm mauser is a big round for a scrub

Otherwise the only other failures ive had were 22lr, cheapo bulk packs, and even then it was 1 in several hundred ( had other issues but i blame that on too much lube - biscuits were stickin too much )

i guess its all statistics - i just got lucky ?

I'v bought both the Champion 180gr and the Federal bulk packs. Haven't shot the Federal as I'm hoarding it.

The not-Champion in theory should be better as the Champion is their super budget line and the Internets have said it's "weak." Shooting at 7 yards and under you probably won't notice but beyond that you might.

I've ordered and shot hundreds of rounds of Blazer Brass in .40 180gr and never had a problem with it. I haven't noticed it being dirtier than anything else but I clean the pistol after each trip regardless. PSA's price and now free shipping offer is hard to beat. I just ordered 500 rds of MFS .223 from them. It looks like their business is booming lately. They had a good selection of rifle kits and uppers but almost anything ar15 is now out of stock.

You are correct it is PSA I order from since I moved here. I use to go to their local stores in Columbia when I lived in South Carolina. Anyway I have a update on the Blazer Brass. I shot it again and no problem what so ever, it must have been a bad box. I just place another order for an extra 350 rounds,and may get more I just got a email from them and they just dropped the price another 50 cents a box plus there is still FREE SHIPPING!
