    basic scope adj question

i took my new savage 223 to the range fathers day, it was not the best time to play with sight adj. 7 people shooting 9 guns. 3 small boys shooting with the adults. i could not see my target hits and got it way off. my question is so basic i hate to ask it. if lets say i am hitting 3 inches low on the target do i move the adjuster up or down to hit the bulls eye. yes it is a stupid question. i think you want to adj UP if the hits are low RIGHT ? thanks . it got so far off i could not hit a 6 inch target at 50 yards. if i was using bags and could see my hits this would not have happened. i will never take a new gun out to sight in with a large group of people again. other wise i love the rifle. thanks

first yes you move the sight adj up to move it up. You should not even attempt to sight a rifle in unless you are using a solid rest (sand bags or machine rest) you should also start the sight in process at about 25 yds till you are on paper at least.
In any type of fight, & especially gun fights, there are no winners ..... just varying degrees of losers. The only fight you win is the one you never get into.

      What 762cavalier said.

Also, go to http://www.chuckhawks.com and look for his article on sighting in a scope. He gives a pretty good description of how elevation & windage work as well as the definition for MOA at range.

I can't post the article for you as I'm blocked from getting to the site from work.
